零式艦上戦闘機 【後編】 再び脚光を浴びるゼロの魅力
中国大陸での華々しいデビューを飾った零式艦上戦闘機。太平洋戦争が勃発し、その緒戦こそ空母艦載機として、本土や島嶼での局地戦闘機として縦横無尽の活躍を見せたが、米英の新型戦闘機の前に次第に劣勢となっていく。もちろん、日本海軍と三菱は黙ってそれを見ていたわけではなく、零戦のデビュー直後から先を見越した性能向上型の検討・試作を始めており、昭和17年６月、エンジンを二速過給機付きの栄二一型に換装し、出力、高空性能を向上させた『二号型零戦』の量産を開始するが……。
今回の「ひこスペ」は、前号に続く零戦特集の後編で、エンジンを栄二一型に換装した『二号型零戦』、いわゆる三二型以降の機体についてまとめます。

Mitsubishi A6M Zero [Part 2] – The Enduring Allure of the Zero Returns to the Spotlight
After making a dazzling debut over mainland China, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero gained fame as a carrier-based fighter at the outset of the Pacific War. It also demonstrated impressive performance as a land-based interceptor during early island campaigns. However, as newer American and British aircraft entered the fray, the Zero gradually lost its edge. Naturally, the Imperial Japanese Navy and Mitsubishi did not sit idly by—in fact, they had begun planning and testing improved versions almost immediately after the Zero’s debut. In June 1942, the upgraded “Model 2 Zero,” equipped with a Sakae 21 engine with a two-speed supercharger for enhanced power and high-altitude performance, entered mass production...
This issue of Hiko-Spe continues the Zero feature from the previous issue, this time focusing on the post-Sakae 21 variants, including the well-known Model 32 and beyond.
