Regarded as one of the most powerful expeditionary forces in the world, the United States Marine Corps is designed to be the first to respond to crises overseas. As a rapid-deployment force, the USMC is required to project combat power quickly, in large numbers, and with overwhelming strength. To achieve this, it maintains highly responsive and integrated air, land, and sea capabilities.

In recent years, the modernization of Marine Corps aviation has been particularly remarkable. The introduction of the F-35B Lightning II, capable of short takeoff and vertical landing, along with the revolutionary MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor, has dramatically expanded the range of missions the Corps can undertake—from amphibious assaults to rapid troop deployment and close air support.
